Jaguars to host S.C. State in basketball scrimmage

Tyvez Monroe, Sports writerThe Augusta University men’s basketball team kicks off the 2019-20 season with a scrimmage on Sunday, Oct. 27 against Division I South Carolina State at Christenberry Fieldhouse. The game is free to all, and tipoff is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Jaguars set scoring mark in 134-93 win over Young Harris

Leeroy Francis Jr., Sports editorThe Augusta University men’s basketball team put on a historic performance on Monday afternoon, Jan. 21, setting a new Peach Belt Conference single-game record for points scored in a league tilt (previous was 128) and an AU record for the most points scored in a single game (previous 124) in a 134-93 against Young Harris at Christenberry Fieldhouse.

Jaguars start ’19 with a convincing win over Clayton State

Leeroy Francis Jr., Sports editorBehind seniors Deane Williams, Tyvez Monroe and Aaron Byrd, the Augusta University men’s basketball team defeated Clayton State 101-66 on Saturday, Jan. 5, at Christenberry Fieldhouse. With the win, the Jaguars improve to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in the Peach Belt Conference heading into their Wednesday, Jan. 9, matchup against the Flagler College (5-5 overall, 2-2 in the PBC).

Senior Monroe brings a D.C. flare to the basketball court

Khadijah Sandifer , ContributorSituated on the Potomac River, just south of Washington, D.C., Alexandria, Va.,  is known for its Old Town, with brick sidewalks and well-preserved 18th- and 19th-century buildings. Founded in 1749, Alexandria was a tobacco trading post, one of the ten busiest ports in America. Alexandria was the hometown of George Washington, Robert E. Lee, Jim Morrison and Mama Cass. It is also the hometown of Augusta University’s Tyvez Monroe, a senior captain on the men’s basketball team.
